The Washington Commanders are set to receive quarterback Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade, according to a report.
The deal is expected to become official next week when the new league year begins for the NFL, according to a source with “direct knowledge of the situation” cited by the Associated Press.
What the Colts will receive from the Commanders has not been confirmed, the report noted, but two third-round picks are reportedly on the table.

Wentz, the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has three years left on his Colts contract, according to the report.

That contract consists of salary caps of $28.3 million, $26.2 million, and $27.2 million consecutively, the report noted.
Indianapolis is likely to see six different quarterbacks start the opening snap of six consecutive seasons, according to the report.

After the Colts lost their last two games of the 2021 season, which cost them a playoff spot, Head Coach Frank Reich said he needed a quarterback who could play 10 to 12 years, according to the report.
