London police officers shot and wounded a bystander while they were confronting three terrorists responsible for killing seven people and injuring 48 in an attack Saturday night, police confirmed.
The terrorist attack started on London Bridge when a white van veered onto the sidewalk striking pedestrians. That van then crashed and then three assailants exited the vehicle and proceeded to stab multiple people at restaurants and bars near London Bridge.
A London police official told the media Sunday eight officers discharged their weapons, firing about 50 bullets and killing the three suspects.
“The situation these officers were confronted with was critical,” said London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley.
Rowley added a member of the public was also shot. “Although the injuries are not critical in nature, they are receiving critical attention,” Rowley said.
Rowley said that 21 people remain in critical condition.
London police arrested 12 people in connection to the terror attack during raids Sunday morning in East London.
