Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said conservatives should expect to see a “unified” party emerge from the organization’s spring meeting in Hollywood, Fla.
“I think people are gonna see we’re a pretty unified party,” Priebus told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Tuesday evening from outside the meeting.
The party’s meeting is one of a handful of gatherings this year, but this one has received extra attention due to its timing in the middle of the Republican primary race.
Priebus said the RNC’s 168 voting members, including the rules committee, use the event to discuss upcoming party events, not how to “put our hands on the scale.”
“We want a fair and open nomination process. We want to take the rules out of the equation and make this about the vote on the floor,” Priebus said, referring to the first ballot at the July convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
The chairman joked about the complexity of a potential brokered convention. Pointing to his own leadership appointment, which took seven ballot votes to get him elected, Priebus suggested that having to square a difference opinion is not uncommon within the Republican Party.
