Jake Tapper: Rudy Giuliani spreading ‘bizarre conspiracy theory’ tying liberals to riots

CNN host Jake Tapper accused Rudy Giuliani of deliberately spreading falsehoods about liberals spurring violent unrest in the country during his address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday.

The New York City mayor-turned-personal attorney to President Trump painted a grim picture of rising violence and crime under a country led by Democratic nominee Joe Biden, blaming Black Lives Matter and Antifa for turning peaceful demonstrations into riots and suggesting that the situation is exacerbated by Democratic mayors who hope to damage Trump’s election chances by doing nothing to stop it.

“Giuliani is saying that everything was going wonderful, everybody was unifying after the death of George Floyd, and then, there was all these liberals conspiring, and they just couldn’t have it because they can’t have Donald Trump being seen as a unifier,” Tapper said. “That’s not what happened at all.”

Giuliani blamed Democratic leadership for the violence that has taken place since the police killing of Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25 and a resurgence of rioting happening after the police shot Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last week. He also claimed that a country led by liberals would result in a slew of “pro-criminal, anti-police, socialist policies.”

“If you want to take a look at Joe Biden’s America, take a look at Portland last night, where they had a riot,” Giuliani said. “Take a look at the woman who punches the other woman in church yesterday. Take a look at the 51 shootings in New York and the four murders,” Giuliani said. “That is all happening under Democrat mayors who actually now do nothing about it.”

Tapper argued that it is untrue that the violence is a planned activity to try and taken down Trump’s reelection.

“It’s just this bizarre conspiracy theory about how this happened in order to explain why it is that Trump should not be held responsible for what’s going on in the Trump era,” he said.

Tapper added that he believes the coverage of protests and riots on conservative media outlets such as Fox News is overblown.

“I mean this is on a national stage, Fox programming, which is why maybe some peoples’ parents, grandparents seem really scared these days,” he said.
