In roughly three weeks, Donald Trump has cut Hillary Clinton’s lead in half.
According to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, Clinton leads Trump by just 5 points among likely voters nationwide: 48 percent to 43 percent.
In an August 25 poll, Clinton had a 10-point lead, 51 percent to 41 percent.
With third party candidates in the race, the results become too close to call, with Clinton at 41 percent and Trump at 39 percent, followed by Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson at 13 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 4 percent.
Clinton’s drop comes over a rough weekend stretch in which she caught flak for calling some of Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables,” as well as faced new questions about her health.
Both Clinton and Trump remain highly disliked. Just 40 percent of likely voters view her positively, compared to 35 percent for the Republican. Clinton is viewed negatively by 57 percent, Trump by 59 percent.
The telephone poll of 960 likely U.S. voters was conducted Sept. 8-13, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
