The Corporation for Public Broadcasting won a $14.6 million federal grant to introduce new platforms of learning in schools.
The CPB will use the U.S. Department of Education’s dollars to develop video-based online games — both 3D and immersive — as well as mobile applications and interactive white board applications.
“We know that children of all ages are engaged when given the opportunity to learn with new technologies,” Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said. “These grants will surround young children with a variety of innovative media to equip them with early literacy and numeracy skills to prepare them for success in school.”
The five-year grant is part of a $27 million federal push for technology-driven learning in public schools. Chicago firm Window to the World Communications received $6.6 million, while New York City’s Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network received $6 million.
