Pompeo: I’ll be here until Trump ‘tweets me out of office’

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to stay in the administration for the foreseeable future — unless President Trump fires him on Twitter.

“I’m going to be here until he tweets me out of office. Which I’m not counting on, at least today,” Pompeo joked Monday at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in his home state of Kansas.

Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex Tillerson, found out he was fired when Trump tweeted that Pompeo would be replacing him. Tillerson and Trump butted heads over the president’s agenda.

Pompeo called his State Department post the “job of a lifetime.” He previously was CIA director before becoming the nation’s top diplomat.

“I talk to [Trump] almost every day, making sure that I am doing what it is he wants to do. He’s President of the United States,” Pompeo said. “He got 306 electoral votes and I am determined to execute America’s foreign policy as he lays it out.”
