President Trump affirmed his support for Attorney General Jeff Sessions during a rally for U.S. Senate candidatefrom Alabama, Luther Strange.
“Luther is going to be taking over for a man that you all love, what’s his name?” Trump said in Alabama on Friday. “Huh? Sen. Jeff Sessions. You love Jeff Sessions. He’s doing a good job. He is doing a good job.”

Trump’s relationship with Sessions has been put to the test after Sessions recused himself from the Russia-related investigations. Trump had said that he would not have hired Sessions if he had known Sessions would recuse himself and in July said “time will tell” if he remains attorney general. Trump also reportedly asked Sessions to resign, though Sessions’ eventual letter of resignation was not accepted.
However, Trump has also sprinkled praise on Sessions on occasion too, notably when he complimented Sessions’ efforts to combat leaks.
Roy Moore and Strange face a run-off election next week. The successful candidate will continue to the general election to determine who will serve the remainder of the term started by Sessions.
