WATCH: Would you compete for China in the Olympics?

Eileen Gu was born in San Francisco and learned to ski in the United States under U.S. coaches, but on Tuesday, she won her first Olympic gold medal for China.

Gu is not alone. Seven Americans are playing for China’s men’s ice hockey team, and Zhu Yi, of Westwood, California, is representing the communist nation in figure skating.

The participation of American-born, American-raised, and American-trained athletes under the Chinese flag has been widely protested given China’s myriad accusations of human rights abuses, including the alleged Uyghur genocide.

SEVEN AMERICANS TO PLAY AGAINST USA ON CHINA’S HOCKEY TEAM

The Washington Examiner sent reporters Luke Gentile and Matthew Miller to George Washington University to ask athletes and students if they would represent China in the Olympics given the opportunity.

While many said they would not play for the communist nation given their loyalty to America and defense of human rights, others said the lure of money might be enough to make them represent China.
