Plans to revamp the intersection of Florida and New York avenues this weekend have been put on hold for a week.

The District Department of Transportation planned to start a major safety improvement to the busy – and dangerous – seven-way intersection on Friday. But officials said Thursday they need more time to complete traffic signal alterations.

Now they plan to start at 9 p.m. Friday, June 11, if the weather holds.

The intersection that has a Wendy’s plopped in the middle, includes First Street and Eckington Place, in addition to the well-traveled avenues. The new traffic pattern will make some of the roads one way and limit turns to improve traffic and decrease accidents, according to DDOT. The $3 million project is slated to be finished in August.
