On Thursday, actress Amber Heard’s lawyers confronted ex-husband Johnny Depp with some of his audio recordings and messages, including one text in which he told a friend he’d like to “f*** her burnt corpse.”
Further texts, read during his cross-examination on the seventh day of the $50 million defamation trial, stoked skepticism about Depp’s previous testimony that he’d been sober for anywhere from 16 to 18 months throughout their relationship.
The court saw many texts between actor Paul Bettany and Depp in 2013, in which he called then-girlfriend Heard a “whore” and plotted to “drown her,” “burn her,” and “f*** her burnt corpse afterward to make sure she is dead.”

“We’ve been perfect,” Depp texted a former security guard regarding himself and Heard. “All I had to do was send the monster away and lock him up, we’ve been happier than ever,” he continued.
Depp reiterated the same reference to his “monster child” in another text to his doctor.
In a text to his sister and business manager Christi, Depp admitted he’d shown Heard his “ugly colors.”
“I am an insane person and not so fair-headed,” Depp said of his behavior when he drinks alcohol. “I am admittedly too f***ed in the head to spray my rage at the one I love,” he said in another text to his sister.
At one point, the court heard an audio recording of Depp moaning while on a flight in May 2014, seemingly drunk, eight months before the two married in February 2015.
Depp also admitted to doing drugs with singer Marilyn Manson, joking about the experience to a laughing court. “I once gave Marilyn Manson a pill so that he would stop talking so much,” Depp said.
