Alabama wide receiver being investigated over allegedly hitting fan

The University of Alabama is investigating an incident involving wide receiver Jermaine Burton, after a video appeared to show him hitting a female fan following the team’s loss against the University of Tennessee on Saturday.

The incident occurred as Tennessee fans rushed the field following a game-winning field goal as time expired in the 52-49 thriller in Knoxville, Tennessee.

UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FINED $100,000 FOR ON-FIELD CELEBRATION FOLLOWING WIN OVER ALABAMA

“We are aware of the situation with Jermaine Burton as he was exiting the field Saturday,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement Wednesday. “We are currently working to gather more information.”

The win was Tennessee’s first against Alabama since 2006, but the jubilant fans rushing the field at the end of the game did cause Tennessee to be fined $100,000 due to Southeastern Conference rules.

After fans rushed the field at Neyland Stadium, they also began to tear down the goalposts in celebration, eventually tossing them into the Tennessee river. The university later asked for donations to replace the goalposts for the next game.
