Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke thanked President Trump Tuesday for his condemnation of leftist counter-protesters involved with Saturday’s deadly rally in Charlottesville, Va.
“What about the alt-left that came charging at, as you say, at the alt-right? Do they have any semblance of guilt?” Trump told reporters during a press conference at Trump Tower Tuesday. “What about the fact that they came charging with clubs in their hands, swinging clubs? Do they have any problem? I think they do. That was a horrible, horrible day.”
Duke responded to Trump’s statement in a tweet thanking him for decrying Black Lives Matter and the militant leftist group Antifa.

“Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville & condemn the leftist terrorists in BLM/Antifa,” Duke tweeted.
Trump was dogged during his 2016 presidential campaign over Duke’s avid support and eventually disavowed him during a March 2016 interview.
“David Duke is a bad person, who I disavowed on numerous occasions over the years,” Trump told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” during a March 2016 interview.
