Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., outlined more of her plans to combat gun violence during a campaign event in Nashua, N.H., on Wednesday.
Reiterating her past promise on taking executive action on guns if Congress fails to pass more gun control bills within 100 days, Harris said because “assault weapons are designed to kill a lot of people in a very short period of time,” she will issue an executive order to ban the importation of military-style rifles.
“One in four police officers who are killed in the line of duty by gunfire is killed by an assault weapon. Let’s look at the fact that there are four million assault weapons in the United States which were imported here from foreign countries,” Harris said.
“So, I am also prepared, and I am announcing it for the first time today here with you, to take executive action to ban the import of assault weapons into our country,” she said.

Harris said the issue of gun violence can no longer be a partisan issue because bullets do not discriminate.
More Democratic presidential hopefuls have been releasing their plans for more gun control as the primary heats up between the over twenty declared candidates.
Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., has proposed establishing a federal gun license program, along with a ban on AR-15s and “high-capacity” magazines. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, was at first was against the idea of a federal gun license before changing his mind the next day.
“As I’ve thought about it, I really think we should be looking at everything,” O’Rourke told reporters. “If it is not politically feasible today, that should not disqualify it from consideration. And so you ask between last night and today — just some time, some reflection, and a desire to better understand his proposal and to see how we can work together to save the lives of the people we care about in this country.”
