One Household Cavalry soldier was found dead in his barracks Wednesday at 18 after he guarded Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin.
Jack Burnell-Williams had just walked the queen’s coffin from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch for her funeral two weeks ago when he was found unresponsive at the Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge.
“It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of Trooper Jack Burnell-Williams on 28 September 2022 at Hyde Park Barracks,” an army spokesperson reported. “Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.”

Burnell-Williams’ cause of death has yet to be revealed. His death was “unexpected,” according to the Metropolitan Police. However, investigators do not suspect foul play.
“My son doing his duty for the queen on her final journey, so proud of you Jak Williams xx very proud father xx,” Burnell-Williams’ father Dan Burnell posted to his Facebook two weeks ago, including photos of the event.
“Never ever thought I would be saying this but we as a family are all heartbroken with the sudden passing of our wonderful son Jak Williams yesterday,” mother Laura Williams reportedly posted on Facebook.

The queen’s cause of death was old age, according to her death certificate, per the National Records of Scotland.
