Fiorina being vetted as possible Cruz veep

Ted Cruz is already vetting possible vice presidential candidates, and Carly Fiorina is near the top of the list, a spokesman for the fomer Hewlett-Packard CEO confirmed.

Fiorina spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told the Washington Examiner on Monday that Fiorina is being vetted by the Cruz campaign. Fiorina has met with members of the Cruz campaign and given financial disclosures, though no running mate offer has been made.

After dropping out of the Republican presidential race in February after the New Hampshire primary, she went on to endorse Cruz in March, making her one of the first former candidates to support the Texas senator.

Now that Cruz is the candidate left in the Republican race with the best chances of beating Donald Trump, numerous other former candidates have endorsed Cruz, such as Lindsey Graham, Scott Walker and Jeb Bush.

The Cruz campaign has said it is vetting multiple potential running mates, and an announcement could come as early as before next week’s Indiana primary. The Fiorina spokeswoman did not comment on how long the conversations between Cruz and Fiorina been going on.

“That’s a hypothetical,” Isgur Flores responded when asked if Fiorina would join the ticket if asked. “At this point we’re going to let the process play out.”
