$150K missing from Annapolis vault

Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen said more than $150,000 was stolen from a city hall vault last week, and police did not inform him of the theft until Monday.

The city’s Finance Department discovered the missing $4,000 in cash and nearly $150,000 in checks made out the city on June 8, when the vault was opened for a courier. Cohen told the city council he is outraged that he was not informed of the theft until Monday, the Associated Press reported.

The checks cannot be cashed because they are stamped “deposit only.” Police are investigating the incident.
