Kim Jong Un makes surprise visit to China, marking his first time out of North Korea since taking power: Report

Kim Jong Un made an impromptu visit to Beijing on Monday, marking his first trip outside of North Korea since taking power in 2011, three people with knowledge of the visit said.

Details of the visit were not immediately available, included the length and nature of the North Korean leader’s surprise visit to China.

The individuals who shared the visit with Bloomberg asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the information.

Japan’s Kyodo News earlier Monday showed footage of a heavily guarded train arriving in Beijing. The train was similar to the one Kim Jong Il traveled in when he visited Beijing shortly before his death in 2011.

The supposed visit comes after President Trump made the decision to meet with Kim after South Korean officials reported that he was willing to discuss denuclearization.
