A pro-Donald Trump super PAC is attacking Hillary Clinton’s comments about the U.S. intervention into Libya in a new ad.
The Defeat Crooked Hillary PAC is using Clinton’s comments at Wednesday’s commander in chief forum about Libya to hit the Democratic nominee about the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack.
“With respect to Libya we did not lose a single American in that action,” Clinton is shown saying in the ad.
The images of the burning U.S. consulate in Benghazi then flash onscreen.
“Except for the four Americans that were killed in Benghazi, Libya, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens,” reads text onscreen alongside the names of four dead Americans.
The ad closes with text that states, “Don’t let Clinton lie about her record and dishonor our American heroes.”
The ad’s clip of Clinton neglects to show her full answer, however, which included her saying Trump and she shared the same view on Libya.
“With respect to Libya, again, there’s no difference between my opponent and myself,” Clinton also said at the forum. “He’s on record extensively supporting intervention in Libya when Gadhafi was threatening to massacre his population.”
The Trump Organization’s YouTube account posted video of Trump in 2011 arguing that America should intervene in Libya.
“We should go in, we should stop this guy [Gadhafi], which would be very easy and very quick,” Trump said in 2011. “We could do it surgically, stop him from doing it, and save these lives.”
The super PAC’s ad may reveal the thinking behind the Trump team’s strategy, as Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway and Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie each formerly led the super PAC before joining the campaign.
The Defeat Crooked Hillary PAC’s digital ad about the Libyan intervention will begin running on social media platforms on Friday.
