Fla. farm names goat after Malia Obama, invites her to spend gap year there

Now that she’s not a kid anymore, might Malia Obama grab life by the horns and spend her gap year on a goat farm?

Serenity Acres Goat Dairy Farm in Pinetta, Fla., is naming one of its “prized” goats after Malia Obama. The farm also invites Malia Obama to spend her gap year there before she starts at Harvard in 2017.

“We host what we believe is the ideal gap year for young adventurous ladies and gentleman like Malia to travel and experience the natural wonders of the outdoors before submitting to the rigors of a university classroom,” Julia Shewchuk, owner of Serenity Acres, said in a press release.

Once the farm decides on a goat to be named after Malia, it will join other goats at the farm with names including Cocopuff, Luna, Dorothy and Frodo.

“The goats live in a very serene environment where they are happy and excited to be milked every day,” the press release adds. The farm specializes in making goat’s milk soap, and also makes goat milk cheese, goat milk and goat milk yogurt.

The goat is not the first animal to be named after an Obama. In fact, entire species have been named after the president, including the Obamadon (an extinct lizard), the Etheostoma obama (a darter fish) and the Aptostichus barackobamai (a spider).

It’s unclear how Malia will spend her gap year, but the folks at Serenity Acres are hoping she won’t find their invitation a baaaaad idea.
