A man who was about to be released from the D.C. jail was charged with first-degree murder in a September shooting death, D.C. police said Saturday.
Police said 36-year-old Chamontae Walker, of Southeast D.C., was charged in the slaying of 29-year-old Darrel Hendy. Hendy was killed on the 800 block of Southern Avenue SE on Sept. 25.
Officer Hugh Carew, a D.C. police spokesman, said Walker, who was in jail for an unrelated offense, was arrested Friday night as he was about to be set free. Court records show Walker had been serving time after a conviction on a charge of attempted threats to do bodily harm.
Walker is the second person charged in Hendy’s death. In October, 18-year-old Meeko Carraway was arrested in the case.
