Hologram mailer links Grimes to Obama in Kentucky Senate race

The Republicans’ over-arching message in the competitive Kentucky Senate race has been that a vote for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes is a vote for President Obama and his agenda.

To that end, the Kentucky GOP this week sent a direct-mail advertisement to “several hundred thousand” voters statewide featuring a holographic image of Obama that morphs into a picture of Grimes, the sitting secretary of state. Grimes has gone to great lengths to distance herself from Obama, refusing to answer questions about whether she voted for the president and wrapping herself in the embrace of President Bill Clinton and his wife, likely 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Alison Lundergan Grimes is hoping Kentucky voters won’t notice her real agenda, but they won’t be fooled by Obama’s Kentucky candidate, and we’re making sure of that,” Republican Party of Kentucky spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Republican incumbent, held a 4.4 percentage point lead over Grimes in the latest RealClearPolitics average of recent public opinion polls.
