West Point cadets overdosed from fentanyl-laced cocaine in Florida: Report

A group of West Point cadets allegedly overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine while in Florida on spring break.

Wilton Manors Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials responded to a call Thursday evening, and seven people were hospitalized, according to WSVN, a local news outlet. The students were West Point cadets on the football team, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

“The U.S. Military Academy is aware of the situation involving West Point cadets, which occurred Thursday night in Wilton Manors, FL. The incident is currently under investigation, and no other details are available at this time,” the West Point Public Affairs Office told the Washington Examiner on Friday.

“We are being told that four of those people had taken a substance that was believed to be cocaine laced with fentanyl when they went down into cardiac arrest,” said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan, according to WSVN. “We were able to get some of those individuals back, so their heart was beating again, with a Narcan. However, four of those individuals were still in respiratory arrest.”

Their overdose on fentanyl raises “great concern” that additional overdoses could happen in the next couple of days, he added.
