Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., disagreed Thursday night with comments a former Democratic National Committee chairman had made dismissing the senator’s ability to govern if she ever became president.
Following Warren’s endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow asked Warren if she agreed with former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell’s evaluation that Warren was “not in any way shape or form ready to be commander in chief.”
“If you were asked to be Secretary Clinton’s running mate, do you believe you could do it? And by that I mean, the most important job of being a vice president is being ready to be president if, God forbid, something did happen to the commander in chief,” Maddow asked. “I know you don’t want the job, but do you believe you would be capable of stepping into that job and doing that job if you were ever called to do it?”
“Yes, I do,” Warren responded. She did not make additional comment, letting her answer stand alone in the silence that followed.
The first-term progressive senator is on the shortlist of running mates for Clinton, who has said she is considering an all-female ticket.
