Music star Rihanna suggested Thursday that President Trump isn’t paying attention to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria, and told him not to “let your people die.”
“Dear @realDonaldTrump I know you’ve probably already seen this, but I just wanted to make sure! Don’t let your people die like this,” Rihanna tweeted Thursday, along with a photo of the New York Daily News cover that said, “Puerto Rico needs more help, Mr. President!”

Rihanna also offered her praise to former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, who banded together to raise money for hurricane relief efforts after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida. The five living former presidents expanded their efforts to include Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Round of APPLAUSE to these gentlemen for taking control of this devastating situation!!! #CaribbeanGirl #OneLove,” Rihanna tweeted.
A number of celebrities have criticized Trump for the federal government’s response to Puerto Rico, which is reeling from Hurricane Maria. The storm knocked out power for the entire island, and food, water, and fuel have been increasingly scarce.
Democrats have also accused the administration of moving too slowly with recovery efforts, and said the president has been distracted by his ongoing feud with the NFL and players who kneel during the national anthem.
Trump refuted those claims, and said he has been focused on Puerto Rico. The president is expected to visit Puerto Rico next week.
