Former President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his monthslong claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election and dubbed the race’s results “THE BIG LIE!”
“The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!” Trump said in his latest email statement.
The term was coined by Democrats during the former president’s second impeachment trial, in which the Senate eventually acquitted him of inciting an insurrection in the form of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The phrase refers to Trump and his cohort’s claims that the 2020 presidential election was ripe with fraud, even after President Joe Biden was declared the winner of the race. These remarks have been variously denied by election authorities and top brass in voting hardware companies Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic.
Dominion has since filed defamation lawsuits against those who echoed the former president’s claims in the aftermath of the election, including Sidney Powell, My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell, and Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani. The company most recently sued Fox News in late March.
TRUMP DEMANDS ARIZONA GOVERNOR SEND STATE POLICE OR NATIONAL GUARD TO 2020 ELECTION AUDIT
“No amount of money can repair the damage that’s been done by these lies, which are easily disproved,” Dominion wrote in a February statement. “Hundreds of documented audits and recounts have proven that Dominion machines accurately counted votes. We look forward to proving these facts in a court of law.”
Recently, Trump has taken a keen interest in the election audit of Maricopa County, Arizona, where GOP authorities and Democrats have been engaged in a fierce court battle over the veracity of the inquiry. Last week, the 45th president demanded Gov. Doug Ducey use state police or the National Guard to protect the audit process.
“The Republican Party is demanding that Governor Ducey of Arizona immediately provide large-scale security for the brave American Patriots doing the Forensic Audit of the 2020 Presidential Election,” Trump said at the time.
“Governor Ducey will be held fully responsible for the safety of those involved. State police or National Guard must be immediately sent out for protection,” he added. “The Democrats do not want to have this information revealed, and they will do anything to stop it. Governor Ducey must finally act!”

The audit includes a recount of the 2.1 million ballots cast in Arizona’s most populous county and a forensic audit of the voting machines. The review is taking place in Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, and the GOP-led Arizona Senate hired Cyber Ninjas, a cybersecurity firm from Florida, to manage it.
Democrats sued to stop the audit, arguing that it violates state election security laws, but refused to pay a $1 million bond set by a judge in order for there to be a temporary pause.
