President Trump praised Vice President Mike Pence for dodging a reporter’s question.
During a Wednesday White House press briefing, Trump said Pence provided “one of the greatest answers” he’s ever heard after Fox News correspondent John Roberts asked how currently uninsured people can obtain health coverage that subsidizes treatment for the coronavirus.
“Where can people go now to get health insurance before they get sick?” Roberts asked.
“One of the things that has animated and characterized the president’s approach is the way he’s engaged American businesses to step up and do their part,” Pence said, saying the administration was “inspired” by the behavior of the private sector in the United States. “We’ll continue to provide flexibility for Medicaid for people that don’t have insurance. And we’ll make sure that Medicare has the flexibility to meet this moment.”
Trump then joked about Pence’s answer, saying, “Mike was able to speak for five minutes and not even touch your question.”
“I said that’s what you call a great professional,” the president continued, adding he thought Roberts asked a “fair question.”
