Grassley: Immigration ban fight shouldn’t affect Gorsuch nomination

Published

Three hours before a federal appeals court kept the blockade on President Trump’s immigration ban, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley told the Washington Examiner the looming judgment should not affect Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination.

Grassley said he expected that Gorsuch would bypass questions about the case from members of the Judiciary Committee because Gorsuch may need to adjudicate the case or something similar to it in the future while seated on the high court. Grassley also said he would want any case on the merits of Trump’s immigration ban to reach the high court before Gorsuch’s potential confirmation.
