Larry Kudlow signals that US is nearing trade deal with Mexico

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow claimed Thursday that the U.S. has almost secured a trade deal with Mexico.

Kudlow said on CNBC that a trade deal is “getting close.” The comments come as the U.S. has been working to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, which includes the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Trump has been outspoken in criticizing NAFTA, and Trump administration officials have suggested altering the agreement in order to pursue two bilateral agreements.

Although Trump has said Canada “must wait” for a new trade deal, he has recently expressed that a trade deal with Mexico was progressing.

“Deal with Mexico is coming along nicely,” Trump tweeted last week. “Autoworkers and farmers must be taken care of or there will be no deal. New president of Mexico has been an absolute gentleman.”

Kudlow is also a key figure in trade discussions with China. A Chinese delegation is set to visit the U.S. to hash out the tariffs between the U.S. and China.
