Six teenagers were hospitalized after a drive-by shooting Monday at a park in Aurora, Colorado, according to police.
The victims, who are students of Aurora Central High School, are between the ages of 14 and 18, and a suspect remains at large, the Aurora Police Department said. After five victims were initially reported, another one was identified, who police said self-transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
“This is a very concerning incident for this city as well as for this nation,” Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said during a press conference. “What I can tell you right now is I have six, five juveniles and one adult that have been shot. When I say, adult that’s 18-year-old, so I think to all of us that’s still one of our kids.”

Wilson said one of the teenagers was in emergency surgery.
“I want to thank the school resources officers that were first on scene, and they applied life-saving measures in form of a tourniquet for the individual that is in surgery now,” Wilson added.
“Right now we’re hearing that they’re non-life-threatening injuries,” Wilson said. “But obviously anyone that is shot with a weapon, a gunshot, is serious.”
Aurora police said officers were at the scene of the shooting, Nome Park, just before 1 p.m. local time.
The high school, which is nearby, was placed on a “secure perimeter,” not a lockdown as was previously stated, police said in a Twitter thread.

Wilson called on the public to help police track down suspects.
“Anything you can give us is important,” she said, adding that multiple people had called in reports “that they had seen people they thought were suspicious.”
