Arnold Schwarzenegger says the Republican Party is sinking like the Titanic and they have polarization to blame.
“I told the Republican party at the Republican convention, it was like 10 years ago that they were dying at the box office,” Schwarzenegger told CNN’s Michael Smerconish on Saturday. “The reason why I said it was because their policies were such that they were not really including everybody.”
The actor and former California governor argued that his party is tanking because its members have taken a turn too far right and are isolating voters. He said the GOP has lost women voters, particularly because they haven’t addressed the environment, education, and healthcare.
“Since then the party has decreased and now has only a 26 percent popularity overall and so it is dying and I see it like the Titanic,” he said. “The only thing is that we don’t have to go under completely. We don’t have to wait for that moment. Let’s change and let’s go and be more open and go back to this kind of like big tent idea of Ronald Reagan.”
He also argued that the Democrats have also swung too far to the left and are “getting stuck in their ideology.”
Despite his frequent bouts of political activism, Schwarzenegger said that he has no plans at the moment to run for office.
