Suspects sought in pair of District robberies

Authorities are searching for suspects connected to two separate but somewhat similar bank robberies last summer. The first robbery occurred July 30 at the Bank of America at 1339 Wisconsin Ave. The suspect was described as a black man, approximately 6-feet tall and 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored hat with the letter “P” on it.

On Aug. 17, a black male approximately 150 pounds and between 5-7 and 5-9 robbed the TD Bank at 1489 P St. NW. He was wearing a striped polo shirt and a dark-colored baseball hat with the letter “R” on it.

In both cases, the suspects demanded money, the bank employee handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspects fled on foot.

“We are treating these as though they are two separate and distinct bank robberies,” said Lindsay Godwin, public affairs specialist for the FBI’s Washington field office. “Any time that there’s a bank robbery that happens, we look at circumstances around the act to find out if there is any evidence that connects information to another bank robbery or attempt.”

The FBI and local police departments are always looking for similarities between bank robberies and/or attempts. At this point, they do not think these two cases are linked in any way, according to Godwin.
