Ken Cuccinelli, an alumnus of the Trump administration, along with two conservative groups, is starting a multimillion-dollar campaign aimed at restoring confidence in elections and eliminating proposed reforms by Democrats.
Cuccinelli, who served as deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security for former President Donald Trump and was the attorney general of Virginia, said he would be the chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative. Partners for the group will include the Susan B. Anthony List and the American Principles Project, reportedly with $5 million at their disposal.
The coalition’s first order of business will be to mobilize its supporters, particularly those in West Virginia, Arizona, and Montana, to persuade their senators to oppose H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2021. The bill was signed by every House Democrat. If passed in its current form, the measure would institute automatic voter registration nationwide and expand early voting.
REPUBLICAN STATE OFFICIALS WANT TO MAKE SURE 2020 VOTING CHANGES ARE TEMPORARY
“I’m proud to join SBA List and APP to act quickly to defeat the efforts of Democrats in Washington to federalize election laws through H.R. 1 while simultaneously going on offense at the state level to rally the grassroots around meaningful reforms,” Cuccinelli told RealClearPolitics.
Cuccinelli avoided saying whether the election was stolen from Trump, but he added that idea was the “perception of many” conservatives.
When pressed on whether the former president’s claims were true, he responded, “I don’t have an answer for that. … We are not looking backwards. We’re looking forwards.”
The Susan B. Anthony List is an anti-abortion organization, and the American Principles Project describes itself as “America’s top defender of the family.”
“The pro-life movement must engage in election transparency and integrity reform, or their ability to elect pro-life, pro-family lawmakers and pass laws that save lives will be greatly diminished, if not extinguished,” Cuccinelli said.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, said advocating for this issue is necessary to ensure its “ability to win elections for pro-life candidates is predicated on a transparent, fair elections process.”
American Principles Project Executive Director Terry Schilling said the group “will not only include national and state pro-life groups but will extend to the broader conservative and Republican-aligned groups, many of which are focused on defeating H.R. 1.”
