Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who has called for President Trump’s impeachment, is now unloading on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, calling him a racist.
“I think he’s a racist, I think he’s a throwback, and I don’t mind saying it, any day of the week,” Waters told the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart during a podcast interview published Tuesday morning.
“I think that Jeff Sessions is very dangerous […] and I think that he absolutely believes that it’s his job to keep minorities in their place,” the 13-term congresswoman said.
Waters criticized Sessions for saying he will not go forward with consent decrees — court-enforced police reform agreements.
“Sessions says that’s no role for the Justice Department,” she lamented, citing the Los Angeles Police Department’s consent decree following the 1992 riots as one that was necessary.
Waters also brought up Sessions’ past comments as reasons why she views him as a racist, including calling the ACLU “un-American and communist.”
“And so I think we have to watch him, we have to keep an eye on him, and be prepared to push back,” she said.
