GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (AP) — A former treasurer for a suburban Albany teachers’ union has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 from the organization.
Local media report that 39-year-old Brenda McClaine entered her plea Tuesday in Albany County Court, where she had been charged earlier this year with grand larceny.
Authorities say McClaine stole the money during a one-year period ending last October. She was the treasurer of the Guilderland Teachers Association, which is affiliated with New York State United Teachers. NYSUT (NYE’-suht) is the state’s largest teachers union.
Prosecutors say she has paid back the money in full.
McClaine was a teacher at a middle school in the Guilderland district.
