Supreme Court to consider whether Trump tax and financial records should be released

The Supreme Court said on Friday that it would hear three major cases related to the tax and financial records of President Trump.

Trump will get the chance to defend himself in March when all three cases will be heard in front of the country’s highest court. The cases, which will likely be resolved by June, could reveal more information about Trump’s tax returns than had previously been made public.

Trump and his legal team will plea to block subpoenas of his financial records per a brief order issued by the Supreme Court on Friday. Just four of nine justices are required to take up a case in the Supreme Court.

A lower court ruled earlier this month to release Trump’s personal finances. “Unquestionably, disclosure of the financial records sought by the Committees will subject [Trump’s] private business affairs to the Committees’ scrutiny,” said a ruling by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. “However, inquiry into private affairs is not always beyond the investigative power of Congress.”
