Trump slams Vanity Fair report, says first lady Melania ‘truly loves what she’s doing’

President Trump defended his wife Melania on Tuesday after a recent report stated the first lady had dreaded the idea of her husband winning last year’s election.

“Melania, our great and very hard working First Lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ‘if you run, you will win.’ She would tell everyone that, ‘no doubt, he will win.’ I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) – and Country is doing great!” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

On Sunday, Vanity Fair reported that Melania Trump’s friend said the model did not want to become first lady “come hell or high water.”

The first lady’s office issued a statement Monday denying the report and said the magazine was unfairly targeting her because she is a woman.

“Once again part of the liberal media, this time Vanity Fair, has written a story riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions,” a Trump spokeswoman said in a statement. “As a magazine tailored to women, it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs. Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as first lady and a supportive wife and mother.”
