Andrew Giuliani says he ‘looked under the hood’ of 4-month-old daughter in trans remarks

New York gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani sparked controversy for invoking his daughter when talking about transgenderism.

During an event hosted by the conservative group Long Island Loud Majority on Tuesday, Giuliani reportedly told the audience he “looked under the hood” of his 4-month-old daughter and knew she was a woman.

“I have changed the diapers,” Giuliani said, per the Daily Beast. “I have looked under the hood. She’s a woman. I’m going to be the last guy in a long time that looks under the hood right there. But guess what? She was born a woman, and she’s going to stay a woman. It’s that simple.”

His remarks were a jab at transgender people who identify with a gender different than the one assigned to them at birth. Giuliani’s daughter was not going to have a sex change, he insisted during the rally. Furthermore, his 4-month-old baby promised him that she would not have a boyfriend until she turns 25, he claimed.

“[She] made a promise to me on the first day, right? My wife was sleeping, and I’m holding [my daughter] in my arms. And I get emotional thinking about it, but she made a promise with me. She shook my hand, and I said, ‘I’m the only boyfriend till you’re 25 years old. Shake hands.’ Shook my hand,” he told an audience, per the outlet.

Giuliani’s comments drew criticism from people disturbed by him talking about his infant daughter in such a way.

“He must have become a biologist … or was he canceled,” Giuliani tweeted in response to backlash following the report.

Giuliani’s chief rival in his bid to secure the Republican nomination, Rep. Lee Zeldin, also attended the event but refrained from making similarly controversial remarks. Giuliani is the son of Rudy Giuliani, who previously served as the mayor of New York City and a lawyer to former President Donald Trump.

The primary election is currently slated for June 28. Incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul has been widely polling as the front-runner for declared candidates on the Democratic side. The general election will take place this November.
