House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will push for an investigation into potential Russian interference in the general election as well as how former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared to know in advance about a renewed FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
“I think there should be an investigation into how Giuliani knew two days before the Comey letter was coming,” Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters Thursday, referring to FBI Director James Comey.
Pelosi said potential Russian interference deserved a probe as well because it appeared Democrats were specifically targeted.
“Something is not right with this picture and I think the American people deserve an investigation into how a foreign government had an impact on our election and how Rudy Giuliani had access to that information when he did.”
Giuliani is frequently mentioned as a possible secretary of state under President-elect Trump.
Pelosi said she believes Comey’s letter to Congress in October announcing that thousands of new emails had surfaced on a computer owned by Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, had damaged Clinton’s chances of winning.
The Comey letter, Pelosi said, “really just changed everything.”
Pelosi pointed to the House Oversight panel ranking member, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., who has called for probes into FBI leaks as well as Russian interference in the election process.
“The American people need to know a foreign power interfered in our election,” Pelosi said.
