The Food and Drug Administration found melamine, a chemical used to make plastics, while testing recalled pet food, but not the rat poison widely reported to be the problem. Government tests also recently uncovered melamine in the wheat gluten used in the company?s wet food.
The FDA said it was trying to determine if the wheat gluten had reached human food.
