Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., isn’t sure the Democratic Party can take back the Senate, saying they “have to care about everyone,” not just minorities and immigrants.
“I think that we need to just get out there and do the hard work of connecting with the American people, and a little less talk, a lot more action,” she told Politco’s “Women Rule” podcast.
Duckworth said voters in the Midwest can teach Democrats a lesson after three states — Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — voted for President Trump.
Trump also came close to winning in Minnesota, a state that hasn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1972.
“We have to care about everyone,” she said. “We can’t just care about minorities, or immigrants, or identity politics.”
She cautioned that Democrats won’t get far “if we just focus on the left-wing side of the party, or the more conservative side of the party.”
