Grassley to governors: Good luck dealing with Congress

A Republican senator told state governors Friday that he had no advice at all on how to deal with a dysfunctional Congress.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said at a National Governors Association meeting on Friday that his fellow Republican and Democrat lawmakers rarely, if ever, consider “the position or impact on states” when forming legislation. He said that’s because “it’s just so darn difficult to work to get a bipartisan agreement, and if you don’t get it, you don’t get anything done.”

“I don’t have any advice to tell you how to weigh in, but just so you know, it’s a problem,” said Grassley, before telling the governors in attendance to “be aware of it and be active.”

Grassley spoke on a panel discussion called “the Federal-State Relationship.”
