A key White House staffer was reportedly hacked, leading to the leak of documents that include a picture of first lady Michelle Obama’s passport, and a detailed itinerary for Vice President Joe Biden’s trip to Cleveland in June.
The documents, allegedly exfiltrated from an account held by White House staffer Ian Mellul, were released by the secret-leaking website DCLeaks on Wednesday evening.
The leak also appears to reveal Mellul’s involvement with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign that preceded his work in the White House. Emails found in the documents between Mellul and Clinton’s travel coordinator, Arielle Medina, describe how much he would be paid for working on the campaign.

The documents were reportedly obtained from a personal Gmail account held by Mellul, and extend back at least to his time as a college student in early 2015. Mellul began as a White House intern in January 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile, before taking a job as an advance associate in April 2015. He graduated from George Washington University the same year.
DCLeaks in September published emails from a personal account held by former secretary of state Colin Powell, and reams of documents from billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations over the summer. The site published emails from staffers for Republican senators including Arizona Sen. John McCain and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham this year.
