Trump calls Pence ‘my first choice from the start’

Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, was his “first choice from the start” amid reports that Trump had wavered on his decision to select Pence hours after news of that decision leaked publicly.

Trump had considered former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, but ultimately settled on the Hoosier State governor on Thursday.

The presumptive Republican nominee was slated to unveil his vice presidential pick at a news conference Friday morning. However, the gruesome terror attack in France the previous evening forced Trump to postpone his first joint appearance with Pence.

Trump, who was said to be rethinking Pence Thursday evening, confirmed reports that Pence would be his running mate in a tweet Friday morning, ahead of a filing deadline in the Indiana governor’s race that would have exposed Pence as the pick if he chose not to run for governor.
