In a public relations move, Carroll County Commissioners unanimously selected Delta Airport Consultants Inc. to carry out the next step in the airport?s controversial expansion.
Delta will gather information so federal and state agencies, such as the Federal Aviation Administration, can make the final decision on the expansion?s environmental impact.
“People should feel satisfied that there?s no influence from the county or anyone else on these particular agencies,” Commissioner Julia Walsh Gouge said. “They are professional people from the state and federal agencies who do the work.”
A county staff request to hire URS Corp., the same company that recommended the county expand the airport, was rejected last week 2-1 by commissioners Michael Zimmer and Dean Minnich, because they thought it would embroil the county in more public outrage.
