An Ohio state senator was caught driving while Zooming on Monday.
Republican state Sen. Andrew Brenner can be seen in a video of the meeting apparently navigating traffic. He changed his background to show an office view behind him, but he couldn’t hide the seat belt across his chest.
STIFFER PENALTIES GO INTO EFFECT IN ILLINOIS FOR DISTRACTED DRIVING
His virtual faux pas occurred the same day the state legislature introduced a distracted driving bill, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
“I wasn’t distracted. I was paying attention to the driving and listening to it [the meeting,]” Brenner said. “I had two meetings that were back to back that were in separate locations. And I’ve actually been on other calls, numerous calls, while driving. Phone calls for the most part, but on video calls, I’m not paying attention to the video. To me, it’s like a phone call.”
Brenner was parked for most of the meeting, he said, adding that when he drove, he was “wearing a seat belt and paying attention to the road.”
