Fox News host Megyn Kelly said presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump did not much contribute to her vocational success.
Kelly explained during a Monday interview with CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert that she was the host of the second most-watched cable news show before the New York businessman brought her even further into the spotlight.
“I had the number-two show in all of cable news and then,” Kelly said, pausing for emphasis, “I had an August debate with Donald Trump.”
The 45-year-old journalist said it was her two decades of hard work that made her a household name.
“I have worked for everything I have. My father died when I was 15 years old,” Kelly said. “I put myself through law school. I clawed my way up. I worked for nine years as a corporate attorney to pay off my debt. I got my own job paying $17,000 a year in journalism. I worked my way up to primetime Fox News.”
“I’m glad you said that, I’m glad you said that because I would hate anyone to think your success is related towards his [Trump’s] hostility towards you,” Colbert responded.
Kelly’s visit to CBS’s studios comes one day before the Tuesday debut of her interview with Trump on Fox Broadcasting Network. The two have privately made up, but the interview will be their first televised talk.
