Trump promises justice for Border Patrol officer killed while on patrol near southern border

President Trump promised to bring justice to whoever killed a Border Patrol agent and injured another in an incident in Texas Sunday and used the opportunity to call to build his southern border wall.

“Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt. We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!” Trump tweeted.

Customs and Border Protection officials stated in a press release Agent Rogelio Martinez and his partner responded to activity on Interstate 10 near the border in Texas.

“Agent Martinez’s partner reported that they were both injured and in need of assistance. Responding agents provided immediate medical care, and transported both agents to a local hospital,” the statement said.

Martinez died from his injures at the hospital and his partner remains in the hospital.

There were no further details about what took place.

A search for suspects or witnesses was underway Sunday.
