Former British Prime Minister David Cameron admitted that he texted a colleague, “You are either a team player or a wanker.”
Cameron made the admission in a long-ranging interview with The Times that was published on Friday. The interview, which has taken place over an extensive period of time, focused on Cameron’s upcoming memoir, For the Record, which describes his feelings toward Brexit.
In one particular admission, the former prime minister accused two politicians, Michael Gove and current Prime Minister Boris Johnson, of “trashing the government” with their campaign to leave the European Union.
Back in 2014, Cameron was frustrated with Gove’s treatment of teachers as education security, so he demoted him to chief whip. While he initially agreed to the demotion, Gove later balked at the situation.
“You are either a team player or a wanker,” Cameron texted Gove. Gove eventually took the whip’s job at the beginning of the referendum campaign and became a leading member of the leave campaign.
Cameron admitted that he and Gove have talked since but don’t speak “a huge amount.”
