Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders may hold a private meeting with all his delegates hours before the Democratic National Convention is gaveled to order on Monday.
Sanders, who endorsed Hillary Clinton earlier this month without ever officially suspending his own White House bid, secured 1,846 pledged delegates and 48 superdelegates during the Democratic primary.
The meeting, likely to take place Monday morning, would be tailored to many of his delegates who remain reluctant to embrace Clinton as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, according to an email obtained Wednesday by the Associated Press.
“[This is] a very special meeting with Bernie himself,” the Sanders campaign reportedly wrote to delegates, who are also being encouraged to attend an event in Philadelphia on “how to keep the political revolution going strong.” Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs declined to confirm the meeting, telling the Washington Examiner that the senator is “still nailing down [his] schedule.”
Sanders himself recently cut a book deal in which he plans to discuss his time on the campaign trail and how the millions of voters who backed him can keep their “revolution” alive.
